- [Kaly featured in Deutche Welle film!](https://kaly.eco/kaly-featured-in-deutche-welle-film/): A few weeks ago Kaly Group was visited by a Deutsche Welle film crew who were creating a segment about the seaweed industry on Skye. Our Iain Matheson proudly showed off the new boat (and our fast growing biomass of course), with other businesses on Skye showcasing other parts of the seaweed value chain, supplying into the human food, biostimulant and animal feed markets. As the segment notes, the Isle of Skye seaweed community is very much alive and works hand-in-hand with the wider fishing and tourism community.

- [Update from the Loch Bay farm after 10 weeks in the water](https://kaly.eco/update-from-the-loch-bay-farm-after-10-weeks-in-the-water/): We can’t get enough of our seaweed farm..! After 10 weeks in the water we have already reached biomass of 10kg/metre (sugar kelp). For us that is double good news. With a just-in time harvest in June, product samples and spec sheets will find its way to our customers very the summer. Exciting times ahead!

- [Happy Easter everyone!](https://kaly.eco/happy-easter-everyone/): What better thing to do on a sunny bank holiday weekend than check out your seaweed lines? It has only been six weeks since our test lines went into the water, outside of the traditional seeding season, and we are already seeing a good and steady growth on the line. Soon we wil start sampling our produce at regular intervals to determine its chemical make-up. Seaweed has a large compositional variance over the season and we are determined to understand that cycle to create better products for our customers.

The aim is to establish how well the site performs for different seaweed types using a variety of growing mediums. As part of our commitment to net zero we deployed re-purposed marine infrastructure including anchors, chains, ropes and buoys. Estimates suggest that the number of people at high risk from flooding could rise to a disquieting 3.5 million by 2080, with sea level rises taking out much of the East Midlands! In every single way. We present images taken during a dive we took to collect samples accompanied by partners Hortimare. Pictures won’t do justice to what it feels like to be down there but at least it can give us a sight of what the Loch keeps beneath its waters! We encourage everyone with an interest in Scotland’s blue economy, marine environment and coastal communities to submit their response here. KALY believes new regulations for the marine environment should support restoration activities and embrace the concept of commercial nature-based solutions providers creating green jobs and natural capital. - [KALY meets Hortimare](https://kaly.eco/kaly-meets-hortimare/): Earlier this month our resident man of the seas, Iain hosted Petra Steenhoek for a trip off the Skye coasts to collect seaweed samples. Petra works for Dutch company Hortimare, specialists in the cultivation of seawee d spores. It is incredibly important to only farm seaweed species native to the area and by cultivating spores actually found in our bays, we ensure that we do not accidentally introduce invasive species to the local ecology.
